Experimental Self-Portraits

A series of photos experimenting with using slow shutter speed to bring out emotions in portraiture. Shot in Ossining, NY on October 2021, using a triple-pod and a cell phone to capture the images on the Canon Camera app.

These photos were captured on a day I was struggling with my mental health. I was frustrated trying to find subjects, and inspiration. I was inspired by a peer to capture how I felt at the time and express it artistically. I grabbed my tripod and my camera, walking myself down to the marina. I began to scream, embrace, and release my frustrations on camera. It was my first time shooting self-portraits and also my personal favorite series, due to expressing myself. This allowed me to turn my madness into a series of photos I love.
